Field Trips
British Columbia Lapidary Society clubs host field trips open to club members to interesting collecting sites throughout the year. Check with your local club to learn about upcoming excursions, as many clubs welcome members from other BC Lapidary Society affiliated clubs. Field trips are often announced on our Facebook page and provide a great opportunity to explore British Columbia's geology while connecting with fellow rockhounds.
Most trips take place rain or shine and typically involve 2–3 hours of collecting, although some can lost longer and sometimes participants are welcome to stay longer and continue exploring. Whether you're searching for minerals, fossils, crystals, or unique geological specimens, our field trips offer hands-on learning, outdoor adventure, and the chance to discover some of British Columbia's hidden treasures.
Recommendations
Food
We recommend bringing granola bars, sandwiches, water, and hot beverages on cold days.
Clothing
We recommend bringing layered clothing, rain wear in case it starts to rain, and a hat to avoid sun stroke. Hiking boots with ankle support are recommended; do not wear street shoes, runners, and other soft shoes without ankle support or tread for walking on slippery rocks. Don't forget insect repellent, and sunscreen.
Transporation
Always arrive well in advance of time with vehicles fueled full.
ALWAYS CALL/EMAIL THE TRIP LEADER THE DAY BEFORE TO ENSURE THE TRIP IS GOING, AND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER CHANGES
